Really silly question, but on the all black rims, if you're using normal road brakes, would the pads wear off the all black colour?

    Off the braking surfaces, yes.

    OK thanks - was not sure whether it was a surface 'paint' or whether the metal itself was in some way black.

    It is a die added in the anodising process... It gets absorbed by the porous oxide that is formed. You can make most colours this way.
