Charge Filter / SKS Bluemels help needed...

Hi all,

Have a Charge Filter Apex to which I'm in the process of attaching SKS Bluemels mudguards - hit a bit of a stumbling block during test fitting & I'm not sure where the problem lies... Bear with me...

The mounting bolts for the 'guards fit in the frame eyelets nicely - wee bit of overspray but nothing a light greasing & allen keys instead of fingers wouldn't sort, the rear seat stay bridge has a threaded hole (90 degrees from where the caliper mount would be) for 'guards so all good there. Didn't have a handy flat-ish bolt for the a flush fit, so I emailed Charge to double check the size of the mounting holes & had barely pressed send when a response came through stating they were m4 all round (cheers for the fast response guys!) so I ordered a few stainless m4 button head bolts online & set about the front guard...

Due to the disc brake on the front & the slightly bulks secu-clips, clearance was going to be an issue so I took to the interweb again & ordered a couple of 30mm m4 standoffs (basically 30mm bar with m4 male at one end, m4 female at the other) so the stays would clear the caliper when the guards were fitted, still with me? Smashing!

Cut to the chase, both bolts arrived (from different suppliers) & none of the bastards fit - they just push straight through :?

So - does anyone know, definitively; what size the mudguard mounting holes on a Filter Apex are & what size mounting bolts are supplied with Sks Bluemels? I trust the Charge guys to know what size the mounts should be, but just want absolute confirmation of the fact, as it seems that I've been unusually unlucky & been sent M3/M3.5 parts by 2 separate suppliers instead of M4 - I've measured the width of the mail order bolts & including the thread, both seem to be <4mm (I was under the assumption that M3/M4 etc. referred to the width of the shank of the bolt, in mm, not including the actual thread..)

Sorry about the un-necessarily long & detailed post, but please help, I'm going bananas. Actual bastarding bananas :|

Cheers!

  • Try a bottle cage bolt in there, if that fits its m5!

Didn't actually think of that - good point!

Assuming all bottle cage bolts, ever, are M5... judging by my luck these will be some random imperial size! Nah, any i've ever come across have been that - still can't believe that I got two sets of mis-sized bolts though :x

Just to tidy this up, in case someone out there stumbles across this thread during a search & becomes as confused as I was - it now appears that the email from Charge contained a slight typo... the bottle cage bolts actually fit the mudguard mounts very well, and so do a couple of random M5 bolts I found lying around, so it looks like they're M5 after all

Mudguards are now happily in place using a P-clip on the fork, just above the caliper (well, they will be after I cut the stays) & I have stopped banging my head against the wall, well, for now anyway.
