Hi, here is my Kinesis KR510 born out of a need to have a dedicated weekend ride as opposed to using my road bike for both a commute and a weekend warrior. Basically my existing road bike was suffering from the daily grind and grim of the commute and I was getting feed up with having to convert it to something else every weekend and then back again. As ever the main constraint was budget but I entered this project with an open mind and no prerequisites other than a 105 based group set. Frame choice was open to what became available and everything was sourced by either trawling the online retailers for deals or after many punts on ebay auctions.

Frame: Kinesis KR510, small = 52cm, Ebay, ex display frame never ridden £279

Front Shifters: Shimano 105 5700, Ebay BNIB, £110
Front & Rear Calliper: Shimano 105, Evans £51.00

Front Mech: Shimano 105, Ebay from demo bike, 0.99p
Rear Mech: Shimano 105, Ebay Brand new, £26.15

Cranks: SRAM Apex, Ribble, £66.36
Chain: KMC, Ribble, £13.40
Cassette: Shimano 105, Ebay £ 18.00
Pedals: Shimano R540, Chain Reaction, £ = work leaving present
Bottom Bracket: SRAM GXP, Ribble, £23.19
Seat: Madison Prime, Ribble, £21.00
Seat Post: Deda RSX01 27.2, Ribble £16.76
Seat Post Clamp: Supplied with frame

Front & Rear Wheels: Planet–x Model B , Ebay £52.50
Tyres: Vittoria Rubino Pro 3, Ribble £36.72

Weight: 17lb 14oz
Total Cost; £758.05

It’s been a really enjoyable project and has taken about two months from the first purchase to completion. So what have I learnt? Patience is a virtue on ebay. Bargains can still be found (especially the front mech) but you have to make lots of cheeky bids to finally succeed. Plus online retailers have deals that come and go very quickly. If you see something for a good price don’t dither else it will either go out of stock or the price changes.

Good looking bike, and well done on the bargain price! I'm in the process of doing the same myself, can't seem to find a frame I like at a decent price though :(
What do you think of the bars? I'm after a set with flat tops and they seem to fit the bill.

Lovelylooking bike, i love my kinesis kic2 and did the same thing hunting for ebay and forum bargains.

Been looking for a new frame and had my eye on these frames and the kr810, whats the ride like ?
  • Hi, thanks for the positive comments, At this stage i've only done a 20 mile shackdown run but in answer to your questions the bars are 42cm and so far very comfortable. Can't say i noticed the flats are any different to normal round bars but i think they are going to be just fine. i like a bar with a short reach and short drop and these fit the bill perfectly. As for the feel of the whole bike again all positive so far. A lot smoother than my normal ride and i immediately noticed the lack of road buzz. Sizing for me at 5ft 6.5in and a small frame with a 535mm HTT is just what i'm used to but i was very careful to get the right geometry before i purchased. The front end is lower than my regular ride and the turn in felt initially fast. However it is amazing how quickly you adapt and then forget about it.
