Garmin 605 / 705 Tech Question

I'm thinking of gettig one of these devices.

The manual says they can only record 4.5 hours of data. The recommendation is to "reset the timer" on longer rides, every 4 hours or something. I'm assuming when you do that it writes the data to the micro SD card and empties it out of RAM. That would be fine for me, provided that it doesn't lose any data [keeps on logging] while you're doing the reset, giving you a contiguous track with no gaps in it when you finish the ride and stop recording.

Does anyone have any experience of this, please?

Thanks,

J.

I've been using a 705 for years and haven't come across any problems with just leaving it running once you're off so I suspect it's either an issue that has been dealt with (via firmware update) or doesn't cause noticable problems for most riders.
  • I use a 705 but I have had no experience of any problems. I have recorded rides of up to 9 hours and have not reset the timer. I'm not even sure that I stopped the unit when I stopped, I just let the auto pause do that for me.

  • Got a 705 but never had a problem recording plus 4.5 hour rides, cant speak for the 605 though as never owned or used one.
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.

Ah, I may have missed a key bit of info: I want to set logging to every second, rather than "smart logging".

    Cheers,
