Which cheap chainset?

The chainrings on my friend's Carrera Vulcan is trashed and needs replacing. It's a SRAM S200 chainset which I think doesn't have removable rings so a complete new chainset is required..
He doesn't want to spend megabucks (~£30) so I guess sticking with the existing square taper bottom bracket and getting an LX or Alivio chainset is probably the way to go? Any other options or suggestions?
Does it need to be specifically 8-speed compatible?

I'd try and get a cheap sram chainset, if you switch to another make you may well find he needs a new BB.
It needs to not me 9, 10 or 11 speed compatible. 6,7,8 will all work the same.0 -
Here you go. Be quick as only 1 left and FSA make a 19mm bb for future reference .

Looks like they've gone.. not heard of 'Grey' either? Unless they mean grey import lol!
Sounds like a SRAM S600 is going to be the option...0 -
What type and length of bottom bracket do you have?0

Get a used Shimano Deore chainset. BB's & rings last for longer than anything else I have had.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

It's the original chainset and square taper bb which I think is 118mm - the bb is fine so I haven't removed it.
A new cassette and chain is going on so I'd rather stick with a new chainset too.. especially as it's not my bike...0 -
New Deore HT2 is only about £50. On fleabay probably cheaper. Includes the BB too.A Flock of Birds

Cheers, have gone for the Alivio option to keep things in budget..
BTW for anyone else looking, the cheapest I could find the Deore set was £40 + p&p from Rose Bikes..0
