Chemical Toe Warmers - they are great!

I had my first ride with a set of chemical toe warmers this morning and they were amazing! It was zero degrees and there was frost and ice and things, and I was out there for 90 minutes. Normally my toes would have been frozen within 30 minutes in such conditions, even though I use thermal socks and neoprene overshoes. Could not believe how warm (almost hot) the toe warmers were after only 5 mins out the packet. It was a bit of a faff getting them into the right position inside my shoe (I placed them on top of my toes), but they stayed put and really warmed the whole toe box.
Amazingly, they are still warm now, some 3 hours later - I've got 'em in my slippers Wish I had discovered these things years ago. If any of you suffer from frozen feet like I always do, I cannot recommend these highly enough. There are several brands to choose from - mine are 'Mycoal'.
For those of you that already use such things - where are you finding it best to place 'em? On top of toes? Underneath? Wrapped around? And do you stick them in place at all? My only concern was that they might move or scrunch up during the ride.

They do a complete chemically heated insole. Then you don't need to worry about positioning them in the right place. Worth a look.

How big are your shoes to fit these in too ?
I've used the gel hand warmers before for walking. If I needed them I'd probably put them in between my shoe and overshoes. There's no space in my shoes for them.0 -
Just ordered 10 pairs

I just discovered these:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Toastie-Toes-In ... 89&sr=8-13
First time out I placed them under my foot as in the image but got a painful burning sensation after about 8 miles. They hadn't overheated - it was just uncomfortable.
Yesterday I did 30 miles (2hrs) in much colder conditions with them on top of my toes and they worked really well0 -
Silver foil wrapped around toes in the shoe works as well. Honest!0

as an added bonus if you have wet shoes and some of these left over pop a couple in your shoes overnight and they dry them right outwww.conjunctivitis.com - a site for sore eyes0

An interesting idea... My feet were frozen today
Silly question probably but do they just work as a one off?0 -

Yeah, once only but I did get 10 pairs for £11.50 on ebay.
So £1.15 a go doesn't seem too bad after today's weather"You really think you can burn off sugar with exercise?" downhill paul0 -

Had not seen that. Got to admit that the toe ones seem so good I don't think I'de need the full insole.!cougie wrote:How big are your shoes to fit these in too ?

I'm a size 47. I have plenty of room in my toe box so no problem fitting the toe warmer in. TBH if you can't fit these in your shoes, then it suggests that the shoes are too small for you in first place - they'll be restricting your circulation which will make your feet cold prematurely. These toe warmers are very thin - like a large plaster.Charlie Potatoes wrote:Just ordered 10 pairs

From the blurb it looks like these actually 'stick' to the sock. Is this true? If so, these would be better than the Mycoal warmers, which I found difficult to put in the right place.Trek Project One Series 6 Madone 2010

Really?! I might just try my toe warmers AND silver foil. Though perhaps this will get my shoes up to Gas Mark 8 and cause me discomfort at the opposite end of the spectrum!Chris Bass wrote:as an added bonus if you have wet shoes and some of these left over pop a couple in your shoes overnight and they dry them right out

How's the breathability with that? I tried carrier bags and freezer bags cut to size a couple of times, they kept the chill off but after an hour the sweat was a problem, even using breathable socks.0 -

Yes they do stick to your socks - very useful, just stick them on, get your shoes on and away you go0 -

Perfect! I'm gonna get me a batch of Toastie Toes then! Cheers
BTW, do you stick yours on top, or around, or underneath?Trek Project One Series 6 Madone 2010

I stick them on top but with the wide flat edge over the toes (for more coverage), so that they're back to front if you see what I mean.0
