I purchased a 2013 defy1 early October last year and love it to bits :D
Reassuringly it came out best on test in this months cycling plus mag.

I'm a beginner no doubt about it, and I regularly see threads about wheel upgrades for all types of bikes, and even a couple of other ones from other defy owners asking the wheel upgrade question.
funny enough the review this month stated that the first thing on the shopping list would be lighter wheels and tyres.

So as I've put a few miles on these rims over the past 3 months it would seem sensible to continue to use these as my winter wheels, has anyone got any suggestions for a noticeable upgrade for the summer months? I mainly ride for fitness and fun but have reluctantly entered the dragon ride in June :? So working towards that goal.

Btw in the same issue the Ultegra 6700 came out best wheel for your money...
And what tyres would you stick on them?

Thanks in advance

The best upgrade is clothing. In December I have seen riders with carbon wheels and summer kit... They did look cold and sad and frankly quite stupid.
Do you have quality clothing for all seasons?

  • I'd like to think so...
    Neoprene Over shoes
    Decent tights
    Base layer
    Fleece lined long sleeve top
    Thermal Planet X gloves
    Thick merino socks

I sell golf clubs and lots of customers think they need the latest driver head blah blah blah
Best upgrade is the shaft.... That's the part that delivers the power to the club head
I get the impression the same is true about road bike wheels, or am I missing the point?

The Ultegra 6700s sound good. I got a used set of 6600s for 100 quid and have 240g Specialized Roubaix tyres on them. Nice and light with very good bearings, I'd recommend them.
