Sure there are equally good alu frames from the likes of Giant and Canyon that get very good reviews.0 -
Defy1 came out best on test in this months cycling plus mag... Spend the rest on decent pedals and clothing0

Why do you say that? Is that what Cannondale told you?
These look pretty good to me

Canyon or CAAD10.0

My next bike will likely be something of this ilk, but I'd much rather build something up to my spec, and spend a little more, in order to afford some handbuilt wheels and decent finishing kit... (eg. a good quality saddle, my choice of stem and bars)0

Young and flexible - Caad10
MAMIL - Defy
Or some mix of the two.0 -

You have changed the rules  - 2nd hand was not mentioned. Also I never said it was the best Alu frame in the world ever, merely that it was given the OP's stated requirements.
Ok I'll make my statement more specific.
The CAAD 10 is the best alu frame that can be had new for the stated budget. THE END.Yellow is the new Black.0 -

They all seem to be much of a muchness at that price point - so perhaps also worth a look at the Cube Peloton SL

thanks for replies . for the price its got to be a toss up between the canyon or rose . unbelievable spec and weight for the price . drawback online only .0

An unknown quantity but these look very nice for the money.
Worth a trip to merlin if they'll let you have a test ride.

I would take the Canyon over the rose. The best of the bunch are either the Canyon or CAAD 10 imo.
The frame difference is the geometry. The CAAD 10 is more racy/aggressive whereas the Canyon is a mile muncher but no slouch.
Which is the higher of your priorities?
If you're in London and email uk@canyon.com (Away until after London bike show) they could probably arrange a test ride for you. I bought blind and they're absolutely fantastic.0
