Hi

I'm interested in the following bikes.. They are a bit of a mixed bunch in terms of prices. They have +'s & -'s, i just can't seem to choose. I orginally only looked at the trek 4.5 however i seem to have the theory of... this bike has to last for a xyz years so its needs to be a decent one.

I ride probably 100-150 miles a week during the Autumn, Spring & Summer months so i'd probably say whatever bike i buy the frame needs to be good quality. Components need to be ultegra, not interested in anything else.

All help is very welcome. (Any other suggestions are very welcome)

If you're spending that sort of coin you can do much better. Trek does make some grat bikes but to me those are the 6 series and they're overpriced. Bikes like the Spec Tarmac, Scott Foil, and Canyon Ultimate all offer more bang for the buck and have arguably superior frames. For that money you can even get a BH G6, Storck Scenero, or Neil Pryde.

    Yellow is the new Black.
  • cheers for thr reply Grill.

I don't fancy the canyon's because of purchasing from Germany etc. I have no knowledge of the other bikes you mentioned.. i know the odd thing about the Spec Tarmac but not enough to buy one. I'm travelling to Chester tomorrow to look in The Bike Factory store.. they have treks, pinarello & spec's to i'll have a look at the specializedbikes.
  • Hi Smidsy,

i've browsed through loads of sale pages mate, i'd require a 60/62cm frame.. hard to find :(

if you going to spend that amount of money, you might as well try out the bikes you are interested in - it all comes down to personal preference.

Here are some other interesting options you may investigate:

Craig to answer your question properly I'd need to know what sort of riding you plan to use it for. It's definitely not as 'upright' a position as the Madones, but I've done 100 mile sportives on it and found it comfortable enough. I must admit I flipped the stem over when I first got it until I got used to it. That said I spend most of my week sitting at a desk or in a car, so not that flexible.
As for the bike it is really quick, accelerates brilliantly and is great uphill. It's very planted on the descents too. The more riding I do, and the fitter I get, the more it seems to deliver. I'd have loved the ultegra version, but the funds wouldn't allow. Looks great in the 2013 colours too.
  • I'll be doing around 5-6 sportives this year but using it every weekend (on dry days ;) ) with friends, nothing too serious. Generally attacking the hills of Staffordshire & Derbyshire.

Cheers for the post's guys, really appriciate it.
Never heard of Pauls Cycles before, cracking offers ..

If you are going to Chester there is also the Edge (on the same road as the bike factory - just closer to the centre) and Cheshire Oaks cycles.

That cervelo in Royles is lovely and I've always found them to be good. They've got some cracking offers on old stock in their clearance store.
  • i went for the specialized Roubaix Comp 2012 61cm from the Chester Specialized Concept store. Great bunch of guys down there along with people from the Bike Factory. Bike thank you to Mark in the both stores who was amazing.

I got the Roubaix for 1699 which was an £800 saving from the orginal price. Really happy.

Also thank you to everyone on bikeradar forum for the comments.
