Front Lights

I currently have a set of Cat Eyes with a HL-EL530 up front.

This is fine for out at night on the road to keep safe but I am wating something else to either replace or additional so I can trail ride at night or take part in a night enduro. Perhaps a handle bar mounted wide beam headlight and a helmet light narrow beam?

I have seen some really expensive lights which although may be great, there might be something else that would be suitable but at a much better price.

Any recommendations or standards people use when doing night trails or Enduros?

Well as it happens I read through the topics and decided that I liked the look of Cree XML T6 stuff and rather than builindign the kit myself as in the light thread I found these on eBay with adjustable focus and for only £30 including 2 torches, 2 brackets, batteries, charger and a free rear light.

You realise, of course, that now you have 18650 torches future 'upgrades' are £10-£15... so every year you will say to yourself, "hmm - I could get a new and even better torch"?

I have been using a P7 SSC, and a couple of XML T6s myself, but have just acquired a rather lovely Ultrafire C8 XML U3 which cost me £14. I am very very tempted to get another one of these!

.. but soon there will be XML-2 lights on the market

There is soo much to read out there about these XML stuff. I had just about got the grasp of the T6's and then you go and show me a U3??? And then XML-2??

When my lights arrive I think I will just have to never look at another lighting thread again until mine are knacked!

Every once in a while a killer setup comes along and we all get keen and think maybe torches are no longer the best option and then people complain about power packs of poor optics and we conclude once again that you just can't beat 2-4 torches on a bike. Simple to repair, easy to change bats, you can focus them where you like, adjust the modes and you upgrade them for less than a 10er.

I've even figured out how to mount mine on my tri-bar clip-ons using inner tubes.
