I was thinking of giving them o go on my Felt Elite HT - the price is right
I mainly ride singletrack oround Winchester and also QECP.
Any thoughts?

They are cheap because they are the 'basic' versions ie hard, quite slippy compound, wire bead and heavy.
What do you currently have on there?0 -
Hi Supersonic, many thanks for the quick reply.
I am using Racing Ralphs - these are quite worn though.

If you are looking for a good tyre suitable for a range of conditions then I'd pick the Vertical. It has a very similar pattern to the Maxis Ignitor and is what I use. Its a good balance between grip, rolling resistance and weight. You can get more grippy tyres but they usually drag more and the same vice versa. I use most of the year only changing it briefly when the trails are baked super dry in the summer.
Although those particular versions are cheap for a reason as Supersonic said. Shop a around and you should be able to find good tyres with soft compound and afolding bead for around £20 mark.0 -
Forgot to add, they are the EVO compoundScott Foil Di2 viewtopic.php?f=40044&t=13020685&p=19496365#p19496365

They're nice in Black Chilli (shame they're not available any more, CRC had them on clearance offer until recently).
I have had similar Conti cheapies (vapors? explorers?). They've been ok. For £10 I'd say they're good value TBH.0 -

Mountain Kings in my experience are not that great.0

Depends on the compound. Black Chili is good, the rest are pretty rubbish.I don't do smileys.

I would have to say that the bog standard mountain kings that are on my fs team are pretty pants tbh, semi-reasonable for some conditions but pretty useless for riding anywhere with a hint of mud. I need to replace mine as the gloopy mud where i ride mostly makes for some pretty hazardous situations. Continental Der barons have been recommended but i cannie afford to spend 50 notes a tyreBoardman Fs Team

Mountain King II is a different tyre to Mountain King0

I had some Mountain King Mk.II 2.2 wire bead tyres front and rear for a while.
I thought they looked really good, and were cheap, so bought them thinking Conti tyres would be good whatever.
I replaced them within 6 weeks with Panaracer Fire XC Pro Folding.
The Conti's had no grip on wet roots/woodwork, pinged off wet rocks and didnt clear mud very well. I ran them at 35-40 psi and weight 85 kg's.
Would never use Conti tyres again, unless I was given some Black Chilli compound MK's!0 -
