You are quite right - I'd not noticed. Bigger tubes on the Composite too. I'm desperately trying not to be swayed by the much better (In my opinion) colour scheme of the Comp 1 against white/red or red/white of the Adv.30

The 'tubes' aren't bigger.
they are only taller. The advanced is wider and flatter.0 -
I stand corrected. Will be able to compare side by side on Saturday....0

Advanced for me too based on how much more I like my Advanced SL compared to my old Composite.
Surely as part of the deal, the shop could put a compact chainset on for you if it was a deal breaker?
Get the better frame and you can always upgrade components as you go if you want to.
I'm 6ft with a 32" inseam. Used to ride a L Composite and it was only when I was properly sized up and went to a M/L on the SL that I found the L was a tad big all along.0 -
Hi. One shop will change the c/set for a compact which they term an upgrade and want an extra £100 for which I thought sounded a bit steep? I stand at 6'1 with a 34+ inseam so I'm pretty sure I need a L. Will check again at the bike shop on Saturday...0

Have to tried them with the 'upgrade for free or no sale' line?
They must be doing ok if it would be the difference in a sale.
I was going to go for the Advanced frame but went for the SL for fear of regretting it later on.
Yeah...L sounds right for you.
Good luck...you'll enjoy either I'm sure.0 -
The bikes (comp1 / Adv.3) are both 2012 models and heavily discounted already. I can't get the Adv changed unless I do it myself at extra cost & then maybe sell the unused one on eBay?. The £100 quote was for changing the c/set on a current 2013 model which isn't an option for me due to the purchase costs anyway.0

You'd get a good amount of your cash back if you go down that route. The thing with the Advanced is that you might find that the frame is so good you're okay on a double. I wouldn't discount it.FCN 3 / 40

I know i made the mistake of going for a compact on my TCR advanced instead of a double (shop changed free of charge to a compact).
I've now changed to an 11-23 on the rear instead of the 12-25 so i've got closer gearing. Still, it gives me more scope for climbing if i want to do hillier rides, just change the cassette.0 -
Good thought...0

Test road the Comp 1 (Ultegra) yesterday and found it very nice. Large size as predicted. Unfortunately unable to ride the Adv.3 (105) but did at last see the bikes together and can appreciate the different 'tube' sizes etc.... Still dithering over choice. Either bike will be more than adequate but I can buy either for the same money. Adv. 3 gets rave reviews (top 5 in 2012). Could come down to colour. Does anyone have pics (other than side angle) of the red and white Adv. 3 (2012)? (not the black & white version).....
Thanks0
