  • Excellent start. You should have no problems with any of those assuming the fit is right for you.
  • I've read of durability issues with those pedals, but they are very popular. You could consider the 105 pedals since they aren't much more, though.

If you have any intention of walking however I'd suggest you opt for MTB shoes (eg. the DHB M1.0) and pedals (eg. http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-pd-m520-pedals/ or http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-pd-m540-pedals/)

Otherwise, likely to be fine, provided both helmet and shoes fit you!

I have done over 3000 miles with 540's no issue at all.

They use the same bearings as all the other SPD SL in Shimano range. Only difference is the plastic insert (instead of metal) and a little extra weight.

A fine set of pedals (especially when they can be had for under £30).
    Yellow is the new Black.
  • I got a Giro Indicator as my first helmet three months ago. 40 quid in Halfords, 23 quid from Amazon Marketplace. It's fine so far.
    Is the gorilla tired yet?

Sportsdirect and Amazon are a good place to find things you want, like helmet, shoes, shorts and leggings etc..
