Front Mech 34.9 to 31.8

I have an old style XTR Front Mech (M950) in a 34.9 fitting that I want to fit to a frame 31.8, is there an adapter I can get for this? Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

You can get shims that reduce the width for a couple of quid. Google front derailleur shims. Some people have also shaped shims out of old cans from what I have read.

Most LBS will have a pile as all aftermarket mechs come with the shims, so any fitted to a 34.9 frame leaves the LBS with a pair - that or put an ad' in wtd's!
