I know theres loads of question about wheels but ill keep the short and simple. Rear hub has given up on my trek madone 3.5 so I need a cheap set of winter wheels to get me to march/april when im gonna buy some carbon rims. Anyone know of any decent deals? Looked at maybe shimano rs30 (i know they are heavy but its only for winterr)
cheers

I bought a set of the Ambrosio Excursion/Shimano 105 wheel sets from Planet X.

What can I say they seem well put together, Ive put about 300 miles on them, smashing them through some of Lancashire's finest road craters. Still running straight not even a wobble unbelievably

For £99.99 delivered I don't think there's anything else out there that can compete for a training or winter wheel set.
An I've had Mavic Aksiums, snapped 2 spokes in less than 6 months and out of true quicker than a politician at a press conference. Never tried Fulcrum Racing anything so can't comment.

Tbh I might buy another set and hang them up spare for when they are needed.

What you mean unbelievably? You've done 300 miles and you expect them to be done already? They should do you 5000 before they need any attention and then it might just be a matter of retention them... the rims should last 6-10 K miles

I got some Planet X AL30's at Xmas, and they seem great, unbelievable even for the money. Only done a couple of hundred miles so cant comment on longevity yet.

Yes this 'should' be the case. Let's just say if you set your expectations low your never disappointed.

Remember the 'Hope Hoops - Pro3 RS Mono - Open Pro' wheel set I had? The one that consisted of Hope Pro 3 Hubs, Sapim cx ray spokes, Mavic Open Pro rims.. Yeah the ones I kept having to get repaired lol.

I dunno I'm a bit skeptical about the quality control should we call it from big cycling retailers/manufactures. Hence why I guess I've been pleasantly surprised with the build quality of these wheels from Planet X.

I'm not saying this applies to handbuilt wheels from a reputable wheel builder btw
