Planning to drive down the the Alps for the TdF in July (with bikes!) and looking for some advice on an overnight stop somewhere in France, Belgium or Luxembourg.

Ideally looking for something midway'ish between Calais and Basel, with some decent pubs and a bit of cycling history.

It's just an overnighter, so we won't have much time for a ride, but if someone can recommend a place it'll save me wading through the web and trying to find somewhere decent.

Ta :)

  • Troyes isn't too bad, about 1/2 way, but don't think it has any cycling connections.
  • In Reims we stayed in Hotel Cathedral, 20 Rue Libergier, a small hotel on boulevard leading to the Cathedral, breakfast only, € 58 for room. In Chalons we stayed in Hotel Pot de l' Etan, 18 Place de la Republique, a good hotel, well-located in the centre with nearby places for dinner and to buy food. € 78 for room, breakfast. Both were a couple of years ago so prices must be a little low but both town are in the Champage region. Cycling round Reims is awful getting in and out of town Chalons is much smaller with many quiet roads around.
