Tyres for HONC 2013

I was one of the lucky/stupid ones that managed to get in to HONC 2013 and after riding it last year I know that I need to re-think my tyre choice.
I used a Maxxis Larsen 2.25 on the rear and Maxis Ardent 2.4 on the front. Both decent rolling tyres but the large stretches of tarmac were knackering!
I have been looking at the Continental Mountain King and Race King and also the Maxxis Crossmark.
Does anyone have any opinions on good, fast rolling tyres for enduros/sportifs
cheers in advance

Is that even an MTB event? Tarmac stretches? Ardents tiring to ride on? Sounds more like you should be on a cyclocross bike tbh. Those are pretty fast rolling tyres.0

Get yourself some Small Block 8's, roll more than quick enough for the road sections, with enough grip for the off-rd sections! The past 4yrs have seen nice dry conditions perfect for the SB8's!
Now that's been said, you can bet your bottom dollar it'll be snowing0 -

Its not a complete MTB event, it has a mixture of country lanes, fireroads and cotswold clay and a cyclo cross bike would suit but I am not ready to pack my balls up in a case and stick them in the attic until I decide to be a man again just for the sake of a bit more rolling speed.
Maybe I should put it down to a total lack of training and the fact I did it on a Heckler last year and man up!0 -
I'm going to run Schawlbe Racing Ralph's this year, gonna ride it on a stumpy fsr which is a bit of an overkill, usually use a hard tail.0

From on-one, Michelin Dry Mountain 2's, folding, fairly light, last time I looked they were charging a tenner each, they roll very fast on tarmac and grip pretty well in slimey mud, don't work very well in proper mud though!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
