Racing wheels - which ones should I buy?

I have a question for the court room of public opinion.

I race Cat 4 (few points off 3) and i'm after some wheels to put on my Dale 105 (Liquigas colours :)).

I currently run it on Fulcrum 5's and i'm thinking of going carbon of sorts. My budget is £800 and I prefer clinchers.

These look knockout value - http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/WPP ... r_wheelset

Thoughts and suggestions please.

If you want aero I'd go Planet X, they are well within your budget and this way you won't be too bummed out if they get trashed in a race.

I'm looking to race next year and will be avoiding using kit I can't afford to replace.
  • Judging by my cat. 4 friends broken bits and bones, I would steer clear of anything remotely expensive... your next crash is literally around the corner... in these amateur crit races tehre is rarely any correlation between equipment and results

The benefit of carbon wheels in a Cat 4 race is probably 99.9% psychological - any aero benefits are marginal unless you plan to be spending a proportion of your time off the front?
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

+1 A mate of mine was racing 3/4 cat and used a mix of Easton EA50 and Dura Ace C24 to very good effect. Now he's a 2nd and only now decided to go carbon tubs, EC90s I think. Spend your money on some ok wheels and the rest of your budget go and improve yourself with it(training camps or coaching)
