I suppose this question has been asked many time so apologies.
I have a small bag on the back of the bike which currently houses a spare inner and a set of levers,but what else would you recommend,bearing in mind the limited space in the bag.What basic tools and from where would you take with you for piece of mind.?

If you have room, a multi tool is good. I'm guessing you don't need CO2? Other than that, I keep a second pair of lenses for my sunglasses and a tiny bag of haribo courtesy of wiggle.

I'd add a chain quick link or whatever you would need to repair a broken chain (also worth getting a multi tool with a chain tool on it). Wrap some gaffer tape around one of the tyre levers (or a spare allen key if you carry one), maybe add a few ty-wraps/cable ties, if you only carry one spare tube it might be worth adding a set of patches as well.0

I have seen many types of multi tool around,anyone i should look out for or are they all basically the same?
As for patches,at 100psi would a patch work while on the road or should i just get another inner?Cannondale CAAD 8 105

Along with the other things, I carry one innertube and some patches, just in case. If you can reach 100psi with your hand-pump, then you have stronger arms/more patience/a better pump than me! If I'm doing over 100km by myself and I'm a long way from home, then I take two tubes.0
-
I take:
* Spare tube
* Park tools patches - these are fine at 100+ psi and stick very easily at the road side (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/park-tools-punc ... per-patch/)
* Multitool which includes chain tool and tyre levers (although I try not to use them) (http://www.evanscycles.com/products/top ... l-ec023024)
* Wipperman connex link (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/wippermann-conn ... -10-speed/)
* Some gaffer tape
* Couple of quid in change
* very small rain jacket
* A gel or similar nutrition
* Couple of spare lights (tiny LED ones) as a last resort if I'm out in the dark
I reckon with that lot, I can cope with most situations. If not, then it's phoning home for a lift!0 -

I have a medium topeak wedge (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/topeak-aero-wed ... addle-bag/) - it's amazing how much you can fit in it, although most of the things in my list above are very small.0
-
Spare tube
Tyre lever (you only need one)
Sticky patches
Tyre boot (e.g. a piece of old race-tyre in case of a split carcass)
Mini-tool with chain breaker
Chain link
Anything more means you should have spent more time doing servicing. Anything extra can be carried in your jersey pockets e.g. food, jacket/gilet or extra inner tube if really long or bad road conditions.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0 -

Wrong answer. You don't use a saddle bag, it all goes in your jersey pouches. DOESN'T IT???0 -
Lezyne make good stuff and this comes fully loaded minus a pump

Tubes, levers, multitool (with chain breaker), 2 quicklinks, tie wraps, insulation tape and means to inflate should be a 'get you home' kit.Yellow is the new Black.0

I refer you to the rules: http://www.velominati.com/the-rules/#29 & http://www.velominati.com/the-rules/#310 -
2 Tyre levers
Chain link (KMC)
Tube
Self adesive patches
My multi tool goes in my jersey pocket as there is no room in saddle bag & its a bit heavier. Pedros multi tool with chain tool is my choice - like it, affordable, compact & has everything you need.'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0 -

In the words of Douglas Bader, 'Rules are for the guidance of wise men and the obedience of fools'
In my saddle pack you will find:
Spare tube
Self adhesive patches
Multi tool complete with levers and chain tool
Rag
Cable ties
Spoke key (but that is only there so I don't lose it)
Emergency fiver
Also breaking the rules is a frame mounted pump.0 -
depends on which bike im using and what i`m doing with it -
winter bike for work or winter rides - frame mounted pump, medium lezyne saddle bag with 1 tube (another in the pockets if going long), patches, multi tool, tyre levers, chain braker, quicklink, tyre boot (section of old tub), £10, latex gloves, cable ties.
summer bike - pump in pocket, no bag but tool bottle with the same but maybe a gas and inflator if its going to be a quick ride
TT bike - in TT`s - co2 repair slime thingy and mobile phone, tri`s - same and a multi tool and spare tub if a long bike leg
better to have and not need than the other way `round but also dont take the kitchen sink if its not necessary.
I like to have each pack set up all the time so i can just grab them and go and know i`ve got enough to get by.i need more bikes0 -
