Pedal colour science - Serious question!

I'm about to buy some new pedals.

A mate told me that the finish has some affect on grip. A polished surface has better grip than anodised finishes and white is the worse due to the lacquer they add on top?

Any truth in this?

I will be pairing with a set of 5.10's so am I wasting my time thinking about this?

My pedals are usually covered in mud, so I'm guessing it makes no difference whatsoever.

I'm going to say yes. In the real world of wet, mud, wear and tear, the differences in grip relating to the finish of a pedal can, I imagine, be deemed insignificant.

You can get anodised pins. For very sad people.

Very sad as aluminium pis will never bite as well as steel as the corners will wear off in no time!

Pedal finish (not colour) may make a tiny difference, but its' the pins that give 99% of the grip anyway.

  • I wouldn’t worry about the pedals or pins, you need decent grip shoes.

You need decent pedals to start with though. 5 10's are still slippy (when wet) on the crappy moulded pin type pedals..

    Red anodised pedals are faster.
