Needing experienced advice on what bike.......

Hey guys n gals,
I'm 5'7" bout 11.5st.
I'm looking for a commuter/about town bike. But with the potential to go off road and do a bit of cross country, but something that if I get the opportunity for something a bit rougher I won't have to worry that it will fall apart.
I'm looking at about £500ish.
So far I've found...

Have a look at the Decathlon Rockrider 8.1 - excellent spec, though that Scott is not far behind. The others are not worth the money.0
