If both similarly specced, which one to buy, and why?

slx is better looking, I reckon, but then I'm not a fan of dropped seatstays a la BMC

I've just had the same dilemma and plumped for an SLX.

Agree with maddog re looks, which played a role for me. Another factor for me was the fact that the Aeroad is supposed to be very hard riding (those big fat aero tubes, etc) and perhaps a bit more aggressively sporty. Most of the time I'm just plodding or doing sportives so don't think I need the extra stiffness (in fact it would be a hindrance) - the SLX is fairly sporty as it is by all accounts.

On the subject of stiffness, I think the CF SLX will be a stiffer frame than the Aeroad - I tried out the old CF SLX. The Aeroad is definitely more agressive in terms of a riding position but I haven't found it uncomfortable at all.

I do agree the CF SLX is a nice looking bike.

This is a decent summary of both bikes, albeit the old CF SLX:

  • I would have preferred the SLX but couldn't / didn't want to wait for 3-4 months for one so plumped for the Aeroad. So far it has proved very able, a much better bike than I am a rider. Pretty stiff and stable but comfortable over decent distances (60+ miles) and agile enough for climbing. SLX is of course lighter but not by much.

That's a fair point Bisoner - I probably worded what I meant badly which was based on this review found on BR - http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/bikes/road/product/review-canyon-aeroad-cf-90-team-11-43004

The firm ride talk put me off, particularly allied to a flexy front end, which didn't seem like a great combo for me. I'm a big guy (nearly 15st) so not all that flexible myself for aggressive riding positions over a long time and I tend to make bikes groan a bit! Saying that, I've gone for the VCLS 2.0 seat post - be interesting to see if it provides the comfort it's meant to.

Either way, I think both bikes are superb value and from what I can tell their owners love them and buy again. - a sure fire sign that they're doing it right.

    Hi

I have just ordered an slx. I prefer the look of it to the aeroads but my brother likes the aeroad better. Horses for coarses I'd say. Whatever you choose I think you will like. :D

Problem is I like them both, and am finding it difficult to decide which one! :?

Is there any difference between the 2012 and 2013 Aerorad frames?
I'm aware the 2013 CF SLX frame is new, hence the lead in times.

Don’t think there is any difference in the aeroad frames across the 2 years, but I’m surprised at people stating the Aeroad is more stiff. By definition from canyon its adjustable for rake, so you can make it twitchy or stable. It seems the ultimate cf slx gets the better reviews by the way. The aeroad may be faster in terms of being slightly more slippery, but the frame weighs a fair bit more so for hillclimbing it may well be worse.

I would take the SLX over the Aeroroad. It's top of my list for a new bike this year.

Which one fits you best? I've been looking at them, at there's quite a difference in the geometries of the CF SLX, Aeroad, and also the Ultimate CF.
