Bar drop from saddle

I am trying to work out what the bar drop should be on my bike as I am struggling with fit.

My current drop from the top of my seat to the mid point of my handlebars is around 10cm. This is with a 15' stem.

I do know that my torso is short compared to my legs, however I have no idea what the bar drop should be.

So I have done a quick poll to work out what the rest of you are riding with.

thanks

    +1

    Slam that stem!

    Spacers are for wimps!
  • Set it as low as is comfortable for you.

Where anyone else says they set theirs on a Poll is irrelevant in terms of helping you set yours (unless appearance is all that matters to you in which case slam it down as far as it will go)

Everyone's biomechanics, flexibility and perceptions of what is comfortable is unique.

I find when I have my stem as low as possible, it stops me from getting lower back pain, but I can't move my neck after a ride. Moving it up reduces neck pain but induces lower back pain again.

Also, you have a 15 foot stem? I think that may be your problem...

I have no idea what's going on here.

Getting the stem length right is the most important factor for comfort (i.e. 90o to your chest) and then you can drop you stem height to the desired height.

    Simple!

Its about looking pro.. comfort doesn't come into the equation.

It depends on the height and flexibility of the rider and also whether preference is to ride on the drops or the hoods - there's no point in going for a pro-look if your back is killing you after 30 minutes and likewise, saddle nose pointed down is a big no-no.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
