My weekend bike is a Focus Cayo from 2007 with Shimano 105 groupset and I'm trying to work out whether the bottom bracket would be Hollowtech II... I know it's got external bearings, does this mean it's BB30? Or is it Hollowtech II? Are these 2 compatible with each other? Are they the same thing?!

    Its Hollowtech II.

BB30 fit in the frame AFAIK.

I'd wager Hollowtech 2. Not compatible with BB30

No. They are not the same. BB30 is a push in type BB - very recent. Your bike will use a threaded external BB - Hollowtech II or similiar. Can you see indents on the outer edge of the BB? If so - Threaded, that is for the tool to un-screw it.

Very easy job to replace with the right tools.

Undo the crank arm bols on the non driver side. Pull the arm off - the chainset should then slip out (may need a knock with a plastic mallet) on the drive side. Unscrew BB with the tool and voila!

Press fit BB require a special Press and would need to go to a shop (you can hammer them in....but It needs a keen eye and a plastic mallet).

Thanks. I want it to be Hollowtech II...! Is there a way of working out for certain what it is? Hopefully without pulling it all apart!

Has it got a shimano chainset? If it has it'll be hollow tech 2 if its FSA or something something it'll be mega exo/gxp.
