Hope CX hydraulics, any good?

I always wanted to have hydraulic brakes on my Croix de Fer. Today one of the guys had the new Hope V Twin hydraulic converter and I was very excited to try it... first impression terrible... lots of power but no modulation at all, kind of very stiff action... I had the impression my BB7 are much easier to deal with. I have read a couple of reviews that seem to confirm my opinion, together with a glowing one... bit torn...
Is it bad fitting or these devices are just not up to the standard yet and maybe I should wait for a better product?
I will never use this bike to come down the Glandon, so the problem of hydraulics fading is not really relevant in this case

Anyone has direct experience

  • I've kept an eye on them. On the face of it they look great, but it's a bit like an analogue to digital conversion for me, i.e. still reliant on cables coming out of the levers.

I think we'll see decent built in ones reasonably soon and the BB7's seem good enough in the meantime.

I agree, but only Sram is coming out with them, and I would rather shoot myself in the bxxls, than moving from Campagnolo to SRAM...
when Shimano and Campagnolo will catch up, it will be in their top 11 speed range, which again I am not interested in for that kind of bike... so a conversion kit is the only possibility. That said, unless it is massively better than my BB7, there is no way I am spending 2-300 pounds on it.
I had a cunning plan to fit some down tube shifters and use some MTB hydraulic Brake levers fitted vertically on the drops, but it seems a bit of a Frankenstein at the moment, but the only real upgrade to MTB level

For me SRAM hydraulic disc brakes is the only thing that will make me switch but it feel like cutting an arm of not using Shimano or Campag though.

U.G I aslo had the same thought about using D/T shifter and MTB levers turned vertically. I am sure the clamp diameter issue can be sorted out. The lack of hoods bothers me though but that again can be sorted out. I might have to try this for a giggle.

Funny how Condor are describing disc brakes as new tech. It been on cars and motorbikes for decades.
