spacer for cassette

i have just fitted a ultegra cassette to dura ace c35 wheels i have fitted as i normaly do putting a spacer on first.i glanced at the instructions after i had finished and saw a diagram wich read if using with a special 10 speed free wheel a spacer is not required.have i fitted correctly and what is a special 10 speed free wheel thanks

    Ten speed Tiagra cassette at a guess.

    I found that if I forgot to install the spacer on a set of wheels the cassette the cassette lock nut wouldn't tighten up enough to stop the cassette moving around. Once I put the washer on it was fine so it sounds like you've done it correctly.

    A lot of Shimano based wheels are 8/9 and 10 speed compatible so if using a 10 speed cassette then the spacing washer is required. However, some wheels are no longer 8/9 speed compatible so will not need the 10 speed spacer for a 10 speed cassette. The online Shimano tech docs are very good in clarifying the compatability.
