Been having a nightmare with a wheel this week.
Puncture, got tyre off, new tube, put tyre back on. Put a duff tube in.
Couldn't get tyre off. Eventually wrestled tyre off. New tube. Couldn't get tyre back on. Eventually got there.
No idea why it became so hard overnight.
Anyway, got some new tyre levers to help me with this troublesome tyre. All 3 broke instantly.

Anyone recommend something more substantial!?

Try something called a 'speed lever'. I have one and it works well enough. The lever extends and attached to the wheels axle and then you spin the whole lever through the circumference of the wheel and bingo! Good luck.0

I use Marathon plus tyres on my winter commuting bike and they're notorious for being difficult to fit.
I have one of these for home use (it's quite big):

These for out on the road:

MTB - On-One Inbred
I have no idea what's going on here.0 -
If you can get hold of them the michelin ones are I think the best, in 30 years I've broken 1! Their the flat yellow ones and used to be included when folding tyres first came out.0

Campagnolo tyre levers. They may be plastic but I use them everyday in shop and they do not seem to break. Every other lever I have tried has not lasted to long. My big park metal levers are reserved for very difficult tyres and the Marathon Plus is not difficult enough to bring those out.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0

Got these Topeak Shuffle ones in the end http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000FIAUH0/r ... wo=&hvqmt=
Did the trick. My wheel's gone slightly out of shape, needs a tune, could that be what's making it so hard to remove the tyre?
I've got a spare on there now instead.Canyon AL Ultimate 9.00 -

speed levers are absolutely fine, used one for years, hasn't broken yet0

These are made by Cyclepro and have a metal blade inside the plastic so virtually indestructible.
Best levers I have found when your on the side of the road with a puncture: -
