Hey guys,

Last July I cycled 5 mountain stages of the Tour de France for charity, including the Col du Tourmalet, Mont Ventoux, Alpe-D'Huez, and Col Agnel among others! I am in the process of laying out plans for a group trip this year, which will involved both watching the pros during the 100th Tour de France and cycling mountain stages.

I wondered if any of you would recommend any areas of France and/or mountain climbs that you think are notably scenic that I could include in the stages. The blog from my charity ride is available at ferocious5.jux.com if you'd like to know more detailed info on the stages I cycled. Also, if anyone is interested in joining us, all you have to do is PM me. Although still in the planning stage, it looks as though we'll be heading from London on 6th July and returning around 22nd.

Any input would be much appreciated!

  • Hi Christian
You could do the 'La Route Des Grandes Alpes' in reverse from Nice to Thonon-les-Bains (nr geneva). This takes in some of the places and passes the tour is visiting this year.
Some of the climbs are Col de Torini, Cime de la Bonnette, Col de Vars, Izoard, Galibier, Telegraphe, Iseran, Roselend, Saisies, Aravis, Colombier. But you could tailor it so that from Nice you could go via the Verdon Gorge.

Another alternative is the Raid Alpine.

Good luck and hope you enjoy it.

How about Raid Pyrenean - 720km from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean with 11,000m of ascent...
