Hello :D

One small step for woman-kind and all that....

I changed my brake pads myself for the first time ever today (yay :D ) but dropped the stupidly tiny little clip that fits on the end of the pin (boo  ) - it pinged out of my hands and I can find it.

I have done the pin up fairly tightly and I have checked and I don't seem to have the clips on my other bike (same brakes), but can someone please cinfirm if they are ok to use like this? Can the pin somehow unwind itself without the clip? I want to ride my 5 tomorrow but obviously not if I now have a dodgy front brake :?

Cheers 8)

Formula K24 Oro's. The pads are in ok and the pin that holds them in is tight, it's just the little horseshoe shaped clip that goes on the end of the pin that has pinged off.....

The clip is a belt to go with the screw in pin braces, it should never be an issue it not being there.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

The clip is a safety device to stop the pad retaining bolt from coming all the way out if it comes loose.
If you've done up the retaining bolt properly then it isn't going to unwind itself in the space of one ride, and I wouldn't have a problem using the bike without one. Just give them a little tweak from time to time to make sure they aren't loosening off.

    Cool, thanks guys :D

As I said I can't see the clips on the Juliana (brake pads fitted by someone else!) and I have never questioned it - I just panicked doing it myself

I managed to convince myself I had done it all wrong - will brave the rear brake tomorrow afternoon

  • if your worried about the pin coming out get some fuse wire or something similar and wrap it round the end of the pin and pull it tight in to the clip recess with a pair of pliers, twist the ends round and snip off any excess, job done
