Hey everyone, me and my buddy are thinking of going to one of these "mtb summer camps" Currently we're looking at the gravity camp in whistler which boosts personal training from the likes of cam mccaul etc. Only thing is the prices it's about £2.5k for the week, bikes, uplift, heli lift, accomadation included.
Are we being crazy, I kinda think its expensive but what's out there closer to home???

Thanks Neil.

  • WoW 2.5k ?!?!?

i dont know what other summer camps/training camps their is but thats a hell of a lot of cash for a week

why dont you join a local mtb club, most of them will also have private instructers that do 1 on 1 or group training
i think my local instructers charge about £35 for 3 hrs

i think you would probley gain more from this type of training and wont spend 1/3 as much

BUT it's at whistler and some of the names they say will be coaches could be well worth the money.
Anyone know or recommend any camps around Europe?

I watched the advert on Pinkbike yesterday. If you can afford it, I'd say go for it. But think I would go for 2 weeks. first week training, the second week, go your own way and practice what you've been taught. Would be awesome.

Yea it does sound awesome and I've been thinking of maybe going for the first week of camp then stay for a few weeks and just party and ride out whistler.

  • Is that including travel?

Yes I in included everything exept spending money. I had contacted the camp about a few things, like the bikes these are for rent if you dont bring your own. trek session 9.9 for the down hill training, but bikes are free at the bike park for camp pass holders.

I'm still thinking about that price though its a bit steep.
  • With flights and everything it is not too bad. Flights could easily cost 1300 in the summer, plus you get rentals, passes and everything else. A bit expensive, but for what you get it is not that bad.

    +1!

I'm 42, and if I could get the cash together, I would go. It does say you CAN teach an old dog new tricks!

Seriously, whats NOT to enjoy? Enjoy meeting some MTB legends, learn some new things, enjoy some fantastic riding, great food, and sunshine (remember sunshine?).

The only one missing off the coaches list is Steve Romianuk. Anyone seen him in the making of the collective film?. Never seen speed like it!

I think you would only regret not going at some later point in your life.

    Regards

Yea we're seriously thinking of going the experience gained totally out weighs the cost. But we're also going to look into camps in the alps etc see what they have to offer. Has anyone any ideas for camps in Europe???

Considering what you get that isn't outlandishly expensive, it would be a great experience I'm sure. That said, you could go on an excellent skills course in the UK (which may or may not teach you things that are more relevant to your riding here), go to Whistler on holiday and have some money left over to buy a new bike when you get back. That would still be pretty good.

Whatever you decide I'm sure you'll have fun spending the money!

It's in a slightly different league to Whistler, but Ed Oxley (Great Rock) has teamed up with Basque MTB and does skills weeks in the Pyrenees. I went on this last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Flew EasyJet - taking the bike cost 50 quid extra. All in all it was less than half the price you're talking for Whistler but I agree that would be awesome if you have the cash.

Well huge update on the whistler camp..... I just blew the idea off and have just got my visa for oz lol. I've already been in contact with a few people for racing enduro and xc so I'll be bringing my bike. I'm planning on heading for oz at the beginning of April though still have to tell work I'm taking 2 years off haha.

  • Enjoy your time a lot! Should be a once in a lifetime experience, and not many people manage to so it years after they leave from sixth form! Very jealous does not cover it!
