I once read that it had a detrimental effect on aluminum frames, is this true?

IIRC it was something to do with the heat.

LFGSS is a better place to look for that kind of question.

    Here wouldn't be a bad start: http://www.lfgss.com/thread17439.html

I'd imagine not though, given that aluminium always has an oxide layer.

Powder coating 'curing' temperature is about 200 degrees for 10 minutes. Whereas heat treating of aluminium alloys requires the frame to be heat-soaked for a far longer period - unless the powder-coater got the process wrong and the frame was constructed from thin-walled 6000 series alloys. Most aluminium alloy frames are made from 7005 series
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • We powder coat at work using aluminium parts/sheets as thin as .9mm no problems.
  • Thank you.
Nice link BTW, some fantastic paint jobs there.

Load of bollards - 99% of m/bike parts are ali and they powder coat no problem at all.

I'd have no hesitation at all to powdercoat a pushie frame.

Pop onto Triple S' web site to peruse prices for excellent work.
