edited January 2013 in Your mountain bikes
Well took the boy out today for a ride as his Haro freestyle bmx was gathering dust over the winter period,
Ended up down my Lbs for a brew and a chat, my son was browsing the display cabinets 10 mins later he was outside testing the above.

So ended up chopping in the Haro.

Took the reflectors off and I check over all good and a happy son,

As long as he stays interested then I will upgrade, nice set of white Fox F100 would look nice,

The Chuckers are a nice little bike, I bought one as a donor bike for when I built my wifes and must say it was a decent ride and I was sorry I had to break it.

That one was a bit older but I recall the bars and stem weighed almost as much as an Orange 5 frame, so worth checking the weights of those (as you seem to have plenty of bits laying around!), saddle wasn't much better. QR seatpost clamp is one of the lightest I've come across and went on my Weight Weenie Kraken for a while, seatpost is a kalloy from memory so you can get lighter but it's not bad.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

    Tbh buddy,
Was quite impressed on the wkend after a changed the wheels over, for wot it is it rides quite nice.
Although its got the heaviest parts fitted,
It's on the 30 lb mark at the min not going over boarded on spec and parts as he is 12 and addicted to Ps3 soon to be slowly weened of.
But looking into finishing kit to save a few grams, saddle is fairly light fitted a SDG bel air ti to save a few grams.

Have had a Chucker since about 2007 it has seen a lot of action in different disguises as a commuter bike, DJ/DH-lite and winter hack. At one point it had some 130mm Toras and a 400mm seatpost so I could use it for trail biking it worked fine & saw me through the winters of 09-10 and 10-11 without a single problem.

Its last incarnation was back to its roots

Sadly gone to a new owner now but I really liked it

Gold clamp implies a steel frame there?

Nice CHUCKER, I rekon the frame can take some right abuse going of the welds they are chunky.

How was the geometry with the Tora's fitted, I've done some searching over the Chucker there quite a decent frame tbh, seen loads on pink bike in various forms . As for the firks fitted at present they are wank, need changing soon as

I have some Recon gold solo air 100mm's in the classified section, ideal for an XC biased Chucker......

If yours has the XCR's they aren't too bad, a good service and decent grease on the bushings goes a long way (even on new ones)

Very definitely aluminium, probably made out of recycled saucepans :)

I once stripped it down to just the frame + headset & bb and although I didn't weigh it, it felt as about as heavy as our cat who is not far short of a stone so I wouldn't be surprised if the frame alone is into double figures.

Yes anything with two top tubes is going to be hard to break :)
How was the geometry with the Tora's fitted
It was OK really. The bb was on the high side and it didn't make the climbs any easier (the seat tube is slack enough as it is) but on the level and downhill it was OK it felt more like a trailbike. But 100mm forks are ideal - The Beginner's Recons would be pretty much perfect imo. IIRC the RSTs on mine were 7.5 lbs

It will be interesting to see how light you can get it

Edit: there's another one here: viewtopic.php?p=15993820

OK, it's just the 2 chuckers I've seen with gold clamps were both steel......the steel frame is actually reasonably light....

Seen your forks would be ideal, however, ive seen the final parts I'm after for the Epic, so need to have a think.
