The police just phoned me to say a bike was found near my area and it matches the description of my bike from a previous accident I had with the police getting involved. He wanted me to check if my bike was missing. I called home and my bike is gone. The police have it and I dont know if there is any damage done. I dont lock the bike but I store it on the balcony of my apartment. The only way to get up there would be to climb the down pipe, so the theif must have been pretty light, and then threw the bike off the side of the balcony. How in the hell can something like this happen without me knowing?

Just goes to show you need to lock up your bike every where. At least you are. Lucky one and got yours back.

So they climbed up your downpipe, threw your bike off the roof, climbed back down again and after all that they later abandoned the bike? I'd say it was damaged, wouldn't you?

Just spoke to the police again, they said it was found outside the house of a few doors down abandoned. They found it awnsering a call from someone getting their door banged and kicked by teenagers. They must have left it and ran when they saw the Police coming. I could not care less about a damaged bike, that can be fixed. My wife on the other hand is freaking out about someone being so close to our kids bedroom.

But yes, that's a scary thought about some creep being close to your kids' bedroom. I wouldn't like that at all.

So since I bought this bike the following has happened@

My wife fell off it and hurt herself
I nearly got killed by a car
It was stolen

I have decided to sell the bike now and get a new one

slap a bit of anti climb paint on the down pipe and leave the old bike out as bait. Next time they try to climb down they will just keep going

Just put the anti climb paint really high up, so they get so far, then fall

Finally got my bike back from the police, The back wheel has a puncture, probably form the impact of the thief dropping it from the balcony. Anyway, if you move the bike forward slowly the back wheel buckles up and needs pushed a little to start turining again. If you pedal fast while holding the wheel off the ground, it moves with a bounce in it. Does this sould like a simple true job, or something bigger?

hard to tell without seeing how bad the wobble is, take it to your lbs and keep fingers crossed. Sounds like you got lucky if that is all the damage there is..
