New Carrera Vulcan Loose Fork

Hi,
New to the forum, appologies if this is in the wrong section.
I have just bought a Carrera Vulcan from Halfords.
After the first ride the front fork is loose and moves considerably backwards and fowards in the frame. I have spoken to halfords and they are going to look at it. I have had bad experiences from Halfords before so thought I would ask if anyone knows a likely cause of the problem.
Also is it likely to have caused any damage to other componants. I didnt really notice it coming loose over the course of the trial so it could have done a good few miles on rough terrain.
Thanks.

Headset is probably loose. Loosen the stem bolts, tighten up the top cap bolt so there is no play but the forks still move smoothly, retighten the stem bolts.I don't do smileys.

Sounds like the headset is loose, take a look here., you'll need to scroll down to the bit on adjustment.

Spot on, cheers. I had tried to tighten it before but hadn't loosened the stem. Thanks for the help!0
