Are carbon bikes just too shiny!?

+1 on the Parlee, to a lesser extent the CR1-SL pictured above (both with "tidy" rim depths); slim-ish tubes, simple looking frames, no massive bulky headtube/BB or wavy forks/lumpy seat stays.

But as to the OP's point, maybe the visual bulk of a carbon frame, emphasised if you have a colour keyed (or just colourful/heavily decal'd) deep rims, increases visual impact and makes any questionable aesthetics (e.g. shell-suit paint job) that much more of an issue.

Parlee. All the pros of carbon, but fairly "normal", looking tubes.

Agreed, I saw a lovely looking Parlee on (I think) one of the Rapha videos.

    This one....I think:

That is really rather a nice bike. I like it.

I had to look it up but yes it is and that is also rather a nice looking bike.

Perhaps I have done carbon bikes a disservice. Most of the recent carbon bikes I have seen, particularly the more expensive ones, seem to have adopted somewhat bizarre shapes in what I believe is an attempt to justify the absurd prices. I don't want to pick any specific bikes out as I have no desire to offend anyone over their pride and joy but I'm sure you can all think of examples of what I mean.

Clearly not all manufacturers have done so although some of them could still do with being a bit more discreet about the decals.

My Foil is Matte Black. 40 grams lighter than the painted frame and I wouldn't have it any other way.

i really hope this is a wind up , surely people don't go on weight when choosing the colour of the frame , don't get me started about people saving weight , its a topic on its own !!!!!!!!!

Took my Basso outside for the first time today and it's definitely a lot shinier than it looked indoors. Also the yellow is very yellow.

What a difference real light makes.

    So yes they are shiny.
    Yellow is the new Black.

Nothing classier in plastic IMO than lugged CF bikes. Incidentally, re Parlees and shiny. I did see a Parlee in one of the bike shops in Golden, Colorado, in a very rough raw carbon finish. Seemed to be completely unlacquered. Nothing shiny about it. TBH, it looked a mess but the price tag said otherwise!
