Car cars cars - Citroen C2
My current car is a crapped out mazda 323 that is just about on it's last legs.
I'm looking for a 2nd hand car under £3000.
I like the looks of the Citroen C2 and have read that it's a very economical car to run.
However I'm not sure if I would be able to fit my bike in the boot!
I can currently do this with the front wheel off in my Mazda.
Does anyone drive one of these or knows someone who owns one?
Would I be able to fit a bike in the back?
All so if anyone could make suggestions of car in this price range that would be much appreciated!

You can pick up a clean and tidy Vauxhall Astra Mk5 hatchback or estate for that sort of money. I can get 2 bikes in the back of my Astra 1.6 hatchback with front wheels off and it costs buttons to run and insure. I did look at the C2 before I bought the Astra and it seemed to tick all the boxes but the only ones I found at the sort of price you want to spend were high mileage ones plus the insurance was working out at approx 20% more.

guessing your looking at a small car for economy and running costs etc. C2 and a tow bar if you worry about space, but a few guys on here have them, one chap iirc rgularly takes him and a mate withh bikes and kit in it,
i chuck my bikes on the back of the car, rack on the wifes car is on Super tight, (i nomally hang myself on it whilst tightening te lower straps) and the one on the big ol' oil burner is on the tow bar, (family in the car)
if your not too worried about economy, somethng like a 406 HDi wil give you high 40's mpg to high 50's on a good run, and with space to boot,(pardon the pun) wel in the budget!Timmo.

Fiat Panda, 1.2, I commute 100 miles a day, costs me £10-12 depending on how much weight I'm carrying on the right foot. Had Mates & my bike on it a fair few times & while it's not fast, it's cheap & rugged. Had it off road a few times & is still going strong after a year of abuse from me.

Here's a question! Would I be better off going for a 2004 car with 60000 miles on the the clock or a 2006 car with 80000 miles on the clock? So an older model with less miles or a new model with more miles?0 -
Which ever feels best to drive!! Sometimes a newer higher milage cars been a motorway car, less use but more distance against an older used on more short journeys car, you'll often find that a 3yr old high milage cart feels tighter than one that's been bumped of many curbs! ;-)Timmo.

Personally I would lean towards the higher mileage car if it has all the dealer stamps. Cars these days if well looked after should last 100,000 plus before they start to feel tired.Fig rolls: proof that god loves cyclists and that she wants us to do another lap0 -

I currently run a C2 ive had mine since 2005 from new, still runs well today. I have in the past dropped the back seats and got a bike in the back with the wheels off the bike. But i tend to use roof bars most the time. Mpg wise mine runs at 44 if you agree with the trip computer, but i do have the 1.6 vtr one so guess its about right, full tank of fuel i get about 320 miles out of it. Generally its a city run around, with the once a week motorway trip for biking.
Faults with the car ive had none in the time ive owned the car but i have had the car from new so i know its been well looked after, so far only thing ive replaced are the front coils and tyres every other year, everything else on the car is the same as it rolled off the showroom forecourt. Build quality its typically french inside, lots of cheap plastic, and the piece under the steering wheel has never quite fitted properly, not sure why but it never attached right and rattles like a bugger at high speeds so i threw it in the boot. Oh the roofbars have to be brought from citroen as thule or halfords don't do a general roof bar for the car.0 -
Im_trek awesome! Thanks for that. I'm going to have a look at a few this weekend. I've got my eye on the 1.6 vtr but the sensible option would be to go diesel. How much tax do you pay on the vtr?0

It was cheap but as usual gradually gone up, currently £90 for 6 Months or £170 for 12 months, not impressed for a small hatch but could be worse.0

Wow I've been looking at a 1.4 diesel version. Road tax is only £30 and great mpg as well!0
