Hey all i have a allez 2012 and i am wanting to raise the handlebars up so i am not leaning over too much, is it just easy enough to buy a new stem with a greater degree of loft?
Cheers

Or am i able to turn the stem upside down? Does this effect the stem's functionality? i.e. will it be more likely to break?
  • I'm assuming you have already moved the spacers so that they are all under the stem?

You can definitely flip the stem if you want.

    Yeh on the allez;http://www.evanscycles.com/products/specialized/allez-compact-2012-road-bike-ec030703
the stem seems to sit on all of them. Ok will if i flip it i think i will get the required angle, i just didn't want to flip it if it would break.

Ok. Failing that you could buy a stem with a steeper angle, just really depends on how the new position works with the stem flipped.

A lot of Specialized stems have a angle adjuster shim in them (not sure if this applies to your model or not). It's just a offset sleeve that sits between the stem and the steerer (have to take the top cap off to see if there's one there). You can use these to lift the stem up without flipping it (unless you want a massive change in angle).

Yeah. Got seven or eight Specialized stems (mainly for road) and the all have the angle adjuster in them so it's a good bet yours have.

Just realized that you don't really have to take the top cap off to find out. If it has, the top cap will have a "+" and "-" symbol written on it.

The allez should have it. My allez sport 2010 had the shim. Didn't kno w what it was when I first adjusted the spacers
