Vitus Vee1 29 or Mongoose Maurice

After a new bike for work and originally had my heart set on a Vitus Vee-1 29er http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=81000 But I have also seen now a Mongoose Maurice http://www.wiggle.co.uk/mongoose-maurice-2012/. The vitus is £325 and the mongoose £215, now I wanted the Vitus as i'm a mountain biker and would make a good winter steed for easy off road routes but the Mongoose is 50% off and would be fine for my 5 mile daily commute and would give me a £30 off voucher for next month on other products. What would you guys do and does anyone have any views on either bikes, budget is £250 really but could stump up the extra.
