New brake hoses - lever end insert query

Installing some superstar brake hoses tonight. Can't for the life of me get the lever end insert fully into the hose. There is a 1mm (no more) gap between the cut end of the hose and the back of the insert.
Does that 1mm really matter? Looking at it another way, there is 9mm of insert inside the hose for the olive to crimp on...

I would not like to use them like that - know what you mean though, sometimes it can be very difficult to get the insert fully in.
so far I have managed it but on one or two occassions it was a right PITA - I did wonder if putting the end into hot water to soften the inner liner would help with inserstion - but didn't need to do that .... actually better idea  would be to heat up some brake fluid so that no water gets into the brake line.0 -

Hairdryer to heat the end of the hose then it fits in way easier ,used a hairdryer on mine last night when shortening the brake hose worked brilliantly:-)Viner

Yep, a hammer does the trick. Shimano give you a set of yellow blocks for doing this so you can clamp the hose while you hammer the insert in!0

I dont have hair I shave it off , I didnt have the yellow blocks as brakes were secondhand and ii didnt have a vice either so the hammer was practically useless . Bike was in stand in living room and the girlfriend was watching tv she has hair so I nicked her hairdryer ,worked brilliantly but I suppose a heatgun would work even better:-) good improvisation I reckon :PViner
