Felt Seat Post Length Question

Apologies if this has been discussed before, but do some manufacturers use different ways to measure seat post lengths?
From using the search facility on here, and a bit of Googling it seems that the general consensus is that the length is normally measured from top to bottom.
The reason I am asking is that I have a lovely Felt F4130 105, and on the manufacturers website the length is stated as 300mm, but when I have measured mine it is actually 400mm in length, but 300mm from the the top down to the minimum marker.
I wish to swap it for a black one hence the question before I order a new one.

i would have thought it would be from the top to the minimum marker so you have the mm as adjustment.0
