Can't believe I'm asking his, but......

Just putting all my Xmas presents together. Putting my tyres on my wheels (700x23) and when I come to blow the tube up there is a bit of a bulge in the tyre where the valve is, I've played and played and taken it off and put it back together. It's not as bad as it was, but still there.

Any suggestions?

sounds strange, are you sure the tyre is seated properly at that point? classic place to get the tube trapped between the tyre and the rim. Easy to check, with the tyre fitted but before you inflate, push the valve back into the tyre, it should move all the way back, if it shows any resistance the tube is trapped, but it should clear itself if you jiggle the valve in and out and squish the tyre beads.

It's almost as if there isn't enough room on the rim for the tyre, the tube and the valve?

Here is a pic of the tyre where the valve is situated
  • as I said above, that looks to me like the tube is trapped between the tyre bead and the rim seat, deflate the tube and push the valve stem back into the tyre as far as you can, ram it backwards and forwards until it clears. You can see the tube is stopping the bead of the tyre seating into the rim.
Are you sure the tube diameter is not too large for your tyre? Should be something like 18 - 28.

Have done what you said and the first one seems sorted now, thanks x x x
  • Hi, With the tyre off, does the inner tube inflate correctly? Does the bulge exist in the tube or in the tyre?

    Cheers, Michael.

In future, if you run some talcum powder around the tube and inside of the tyre then it will all tend to slip into place much more easily.

Really? Never have an issue, but will do this!
  • I haven't tried this either but sounds a good plan!
