Have you read DC Rainmaker's review? It's pretty comprehensive, as all of his reviews are.
  • cheers it is a good review. i'm just not sure if i'd find it worth while or not. n if i should spend the £90 or not

I've recently bought the 500 after months of deliberating. I'm glad I did. I was using an app on my phone to track my rides before, but it's so much better being able to see all the data as you ride along. I've been pleasantly surprised by the course feature. I thought it would be tricky to follow compared to the full mapping available on the 800, but it's served me very well so far, despite just being a line on a blank screen.
  • I've got the 200 & think it's a great bit of kit. I really like it's simplicity as it just covers the basics. No fiddling about
  • I've got myself one for xmas will try it on the 28th but it looks good :D

Great if you are certain you won't want any of the other stuff that you can do on the 500.

I'm selling one, used but in good nick, and comes with new mounts (from the Edge 500 I've upgraded to). PM if interested.
  • not quite detailed enough that review :wink::wink::wink: , haha, never seen that web site but will be using it again.

ive been thinking of getting a garmin after i seen my mates 800 which he is using for a LEJOG trip and was mighty impressed. just dont fancy the £300 price tag.

    biggest plus is

not draining your phones battery when running strava and seeing the info in front of you

    negative

    err none
  • Another positive recommendation for the Garmin! I had the 200 for 10 months, but then realised I wanted the HRM facility, so gave my 200 to the wife as a sweetener for spending the extra. I know I will never need the mapping facilities but find both the 200 and 500 great motivators. You will not regret it.

I'm looking for a GPS unit too as want it so I can slip it in my pocket when I take up running too

So with that idea I looked at Motorola motoactv, as can be had for similar money but had watch strap attachment, 8gb memory for music, ant+ feature etc. but not sure as mixed reviews due to buggy software but then some ok reviews, whilst the garmin generally gets good reviews

Only thing with 200 is that as I like my data and numbers I would like the option of ant+ in future possibly.

If I had the outlay budget I would buy edge 500
    Wanted: Cube Streamer/Agree GTC Compact / Pro/ Race : 53cm
  • Got one a year ago, and can honestly say that it's the best bike related thing I have ever done.
I have a road bike and an MTB .. no fiddling around, just swap it over and it comes with 2 mounts. Very easy to use, and the fun carries on when you get home and plug in your ride and start analysing.
This time of year the backlight is invaluable.
Seriously recommend this. If mine broke I wouldn't be able to get back on the bike without it!
  • I don't need/want cadence or heart rate info.I like elevation data, strava, huge battery life and simple route following options.Garmin 200 does it for me.

Can't comment on the 200 but I own the 500 and being able to upload and analyse the data after a ride is great, it's also great to have the various readouts when riding.

The reason I got the 500 was because I did want a mapping feature, which you get here by being able to download routes from the internet and upload them to the 500, which gives you a line to follow, however I didn't think I'd need the SatNav on the 800, nor did I want to pay the extra.

I'm sure the 200 is a really capable device, as it is a Garmin, when it comes to raw data but I'd want at least some mapping capability.

I think the 200 is excellent. It's simple, reliable and has everything I need. Being able to upload routes to it is an extremely useful feature.

The 200 also has the course feature.
