chain stay protector

Slightly newbie question.... should I put my chain stay protector under or over the top of the cable routing?
Under would mean a lot of trimming down of the protector and a relatively short section protected (between cable guides) but don't know if over the top will affect the shifting? shouldn't do as it's full length outer cables.
I'm thinking over the top, right?

It probably depends on the frame, but I had to run the cable over the chainstay protector i.e. outside, as it was affecting shifting.0

If you can just cut spaces out for the cable stops to fit through (like this specialized one), you'll still get full protection.Statistically, Six Out Of Seven Dwarves Aren't Happy0
