How hard can it be?

I'm trying to buy a new bike for around 2k.

I've tried a few out and most feel absolutely fine. I ask the shop and they want to sell their wares, obviously.

You can ask a forum but everyone has their favourites.

I've been offered some very good deals on the likes of: Merida, Scott, Lapierre, Look, Focus, Cube, Colnago and Felt!

I can't believe it's so bloody difficult.

I'm not asking advice by the way, just venting my spleen.

One more problem......how the hell do I sell my current machinery? :?

Forum has a for sale section? That's how I sold one of mine a couple of year's ago.
  • And was it hassle free?
    Did someone collect it?

It was for me. You can always specify that you want someone to collect rather than posting it if you want (which I did), just limits the number of people who might buy it.

I think that the reason it's so hard is that, given you're spending a fair amount of money (and £2k falls firmly into that category), you are going to get a decent bike no matter which you choose. I don't believe that there is that much to choose between bikes at this price point. Some bikes may suit some people in particular but I'd be surprised if you spent £2,000 on a bike that fits you and didn't enjoy it.
  • Do your research first before going to the shop. As you are aware shops are trying to shift their stock so may not give you unbiased advice. So do a search on the net find out what kind of bike you can get for 2k. Then draw a spreadsheet and formulate some kind chart I suppose. Equipment, frame quality (you will need to read reviews on each frame). And overall bike weight. Geometry warranty and availability.

Through my looking I found canyon often offered moat bike for money and their frame is widely regarded as the top end if the market

But all in all I think the first thing is looks you got to love your bike so that it begs to ride it
    Road - Cannondale CAAD 8 - 7.8kg
    Road - Chinese Carbon Diablo - 6.4kg

The bikes are probably much of a muchness because they are all built in the same few factories. Some may be the same frame just badged differently. So just stop sweating it and go for the bike you just like the most. Which one will you look at admiringly? Which one will you look at, at a cafe stop and think my bike looks the nicest?

For that price, the spec is going to be good, so just see if you can ride them all and see if any shout out to you as feeling better than the rest.

If not just go for looks (probably Colnago in that case) ;)

    Road - Dolan Preffisio
    MTB - On-One Inbred

I have no idea what's going on here.
  • Scott Foil15 Di2 Ultegra is the choice.
Got a very good deal and the bike is unbelievably good......highly recommended!
All power is transferred to the road and none left in the bike. Very comfortable too!
    One very happy chappy!

There are a few things to consider, do you want a bike made by a more popular brand or would you prefer something niche and less seen on the roads? What are the specs of each bike you're considering from frame geometry and weight through to components? Differences at that price point will be negligible since all 2K+ bikes will be pretty well kitted out. Which bike sings to you, in terms of looks and total package? Out of the brands you mention the ones I would consider would be Focus, Felt and Colnago but that's just me!

I wouldn't be agonising, you've got 2K to blow and you should be enjoying looking at all the cool shiny things could be yours!

The for sale section of these forums seems to be very active so maybe try selling in there.
  • Er, previous post Camus!

I look no more, choice is made, bike is better than expected, much better!

    Made up!
