Okay, last question for a while!!
I was bleeding my brakes there after I lost a bit of fluid while swapping the levers over. The bleed kit was great (http://www.epicbleedsolutions.com) but I noticed fluid leaking from the reservoir when I was pushing fluid down from the lever. It wasn't leaking from the screw but from the crack where the reservoir cap meets the lever body.
Any idea why this would happen? It happened with both brakes but there were no problems other than that - brakes bedded in fine and no more leakages. :? Thanks

Probably residual fluid that has pushed out - usually nothing to worry about!0
-
Cheers supersonic, would you be able to explain a bit more though please? I wouldn't mind knowing what's actually happening! If that's the reservoir cap, surely fluid shouldn't be able to escape? I haven't taken the reservoir cap off as of yet so I don't know what is happening underneath!0
-
The reservoir caps are not sealed - there are bleed holes for air to escape when the fluid expands into the bladder. If fluid is around the bladder or on the diaphragm (sucked in then pushed out, or from when built), then it gets pushed out in some circumstances. Would be more noticable when bleeding.0

Brilliant, thanks! Yep, there were no leaks when I was squeezing the lever after I finished bleeding so hopefully no more problems! The difference between them and the tektro aurigas I had is incredible, so much more power and modulation, and I wouldn't say they've properly bedded in yet ... I'm well pleased!0

Cant wait to get mine working. They're fitted just need to trim the hoses. Gonna leave that to the LBS seems as I have no hose cutters or a bleed kit yet. Gonna order both after Christmas
They look and feel ace.0 -
They are awesome! To cut the hose you only need a stanley blade, and then a spare olive/insert. Shimano have a pdf about how to do it without needing to bleed the brakes but I just messed it up slightly!0

Send me the link please mate.
Out on a ride tomorrow so wanna get them set up properly if I can.
What's delivery like from epicbleedsolutions?0 -
Shimano techdocs all on techdocs.shimano.com (ever used google before - ever?)
CRC do the olive and insert, just search their website.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
I've got the olives and inserts. I'm on my phone so cha with looking on google if someone has the link already. But I'll do things to your standard from now on.0

Ok sweet, Come to think of it I have some mineral oil left from my aurgia bleed kit... Would I be ok to use that if needed?0
-
Yep, just to top it up. For the new shimano brakes you really just need the yellow funnel or the syringe adaptor for bleeding them.0
-
How're you getting on with your brakes mate? Hopefully will get out on the bike sometime this weekend or before I go back tonight work Wednesday.0
-
They're brilliant! Rear wheel locks up quite easily though so I just have to be careful on the roads, I'll hopefully get out later today if i get enough uni work done0
-
Picking mine up from LBS tomorrow so can't wait to get out on it0

Getting them bled just? Or did the lever swap go that bad!0

He's fitting the front brake, bleeding, new 180mm rear mount for my new rotors and new rotor bolts.
I bought some Hope floating rotors from here for £20 180mm front and rear.0 -

180mm on the rear?! Why?! I won't even comment on everyones hate here for floating rotors!0

What's wrong with having 180 on the rear then?0 -
It's generally a bit much for normal xc/trail riding but it can depend on how heavy the rider is which is why I asked why! The rear brake locks up straight away for me on a 160mm rotor so a 180mm rotor would be overkill.0

I weigh 16.6... My current rotors aren't very straight and have a couple of chips taken out of them and they were cheap at £20 for both in good condition...
Oh and they're red so I gain speed there don't I?...0 -
Rookie mistake .... You want your brakes to be slow!0
-
Hopefully they'll work fine Can't be as bad as the old Aurigas...0

I'd be very disapointed if they were! I never got out on a ride today, so looks like it will be tomorrow morning ... I should really spend more time working and less time on here :roll:0 -
Haha, Picking the bike up early on tomorrow and gonna get it muddy on the way home for definite0
