SPD Cleats Slipping

I've just bought a new pair of shoes and I'm having trouble securing the cleats properly.
The cleats are Look Keo's and I'm finding that when I disengage the show from the pedal, the cleat is moving despite having the bolts nice and tight. There's some small plastic pins on the cleats but they don't even seem to be marking the sole of the shoe!

Any suggestions as to how I can stop the cleat slipping?

    tighten the bolts.

sounds like your nice and tight is not enough.

Any tighter and I'm likely to strip the threads!
  • Silly question but are the shoes/cleats compatible with the pedal you have?

I've nto seen anything to suggest they're not compatible.
I'm using Mavic shoes and Look Keo pedals/cleats.

    Yes, normal 3 bolt shoes.

When tightening put your hand inside the shoe and push down hard to provide extra leverage and stop the screw bed lifting. You should then be able to get them suitably tight.

You can also put some threadlock on them as the screws may be coming loose with the pressure of clipping in/out.

Try using a torque wrench (if you have one) to tighten the bolts to the max recommended force. Maybe use some threadlock as suggested above aswell.

I have no idea what's going on here.
  • As above, use Threadlock or similar. Failing that, maybe a rubber/plastic shim between the cleat and the sole of the shoe may help. If all else fails, try new, longer or wider bolts.

  • Have you checked the length of your bolts? I remember once having to cut an eighth of an inch off mine as they were bottoming out.
