Hello all!
Quick question - do any of you know of some narrow CX/urban tyres that will fit on my old road bike (see rubbish bike in my sig)?
I took it to a hardpack trail today and absolutely loved it. I just don't know how much grip is actually there....
Thanks!

proper Cross tyres are often knobbly and they'll be awful on the road. Its surprising how good road tyres can be off road - unless its properly muddy.
I'd look at some of these - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Sear ... ryIDs=1048
You can get them in 25mm or 28mm width if you can get the wider ones on - they're sturdy as anything so you'll not flat and the grip is pretty good. On road they're heavy but decent.0 -

I've heard good things about them - they're rather expensive though (they're probably more than the bike is worth)
I've currently got 23mm slick road tyres on, and they were actually really good on the hardpack - they dug in on corners and had a fair amount of grip. I don't know if the marathons or equivalent would be any good on gravel/mud etc?

I've offroaded on 25mm slicks but it really depends on clearances under the brakes / fork crown as most modern road frames rarely accept anything bigger than 25mm or 28mm with little clearance - the problem is that mud simply packs in there and forces you to a halt. Unless it's very dry, even if you can squeeze a fatter tyre in there expect to start walking if it gets muddy.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0
