Can I just use 1 type of grease for all parts on the bike? Also can a cheap grease from hardware store work for pedal threads etc?

Why are there different price grease and what if I just use the cheapest? Eg there are teflon and lithium grease, then there is cheap lithium grease from my neighbourhood hardware store.

You can use a cheap grease (sodium based) for pedal threads as for most parts of your bike. If you want to learn about different grease types, look on this web site ....

Bikes are not that hi-tech compared to aerospace, racing cars and other exotica. Aside of a basic grease pot, I use Finish Line Teflon grease for any rotating parts that can be subject to spray - wheel and chainring bearings. Probably OTT but I'm happy to do this and one tube lasts a long time.

Whoops, I meant to say that sodium-based (i.e. common) grease is the basic grease and readily available at low cost. One tub of sodium-based grease will last for years.

For things like pedal thread and other staic threads then a basix grease will do. for cup and cone hubs though a basic greae will be washed out prety quickly and is not entirely suited to the load moving bit in such hubs. There a good lithium based grease is useful and one which is as water repelent as it can be.

Coppa slip is very good thing to use on pedal threads and all threads really as it preventy siexing and even when the grease componant is washed away the copper remains doing it job.

I use Teflon based grease on all parts. As above, Finish Line is good, as is Halfords own brand.
