Instagram Greed

Step away from the rhetoric. I can't see where it says that Instagram will sell photos for use by advertisers. I've seen a lot of internet hatred about it, but I haven't seen the bit in T&Cs where they say they will do that. If they say they will do that, then I agree with the OP (as I have stated).
Could you show me where it says they could sell my photo to Viagra? I think the T&C....
"a business or other entity may pay us to display your username, likeness, photos, and/or actions you take, in connection with paid or sponsored content or promotions, without any compensation to you."
...refers to internal content, not external.
Later on it transpires that one of the people in the background takes exception to their image being used in an ad - it is at this point that BR steps back and says it has nothing to do with them, that you as the photographer bears the liability.
You would be happy with this scenario?0 -

No, I wouldn't. But I can't find where it says that Instagram can sell your photos outside of the Instagram site. I read this......you agree that a business or other entity may pay us to display your username, likeness, photos (along with any associated metadata), and/or actions you take, in connection with paid or sponsored content or promotions, without any compensation to you.
...to mean that Instagram could place an ad in proximity to your content, or use your content to support sponsored content on the site.
For example:
BUY CHIPS FROM MRS MIGGINS CHIP SHOP
If you are posting your photos on a website you have already lost control of them. I think a lot of people are insinuating dodginess from Instagram who have immediately revised the wording of their T&Cs in the face of internet opposition (but not actually changed them).0 -

Tomate-o/tomat-o, and they will (if they don't modify their terms) sell ad space within their site and they may sell space to a company like Viagra and associate your picture with that ad. So yes, not selling your photo to Viagra, just selling them ad space and using your face with the ad.0 -

But suit yourself. If you're happy with Instagram, and its policies, by all means keep using them.
I never have used it, and never will. I was just pointing out a deadline and potential pitfall for those who do. It is not just me - BBC, CNN, and Time were also pointing this out, as were many photography websites.0 -
