I'm looking to buy a new full susp bike in the £2k-£2.5k bracket, I think I'll get more for my money buying a 2012 model. I've currently got a 2007 Stumpjumper FSR Comp. The new bike needs to have more travel, a drop seatpost and a chain tensioner, 20 gears would do me too. I'm not considering a 29' bike at the moment.
Bikes I've been looking at online are the
Stumpjumper FSR Comp Evo 2012 (MBR's bike of the year) at £2.5k.
Enduro Comp and Evo but only found 2013 prices so far
Ghost Cagua 2012 £2550
I've just started looking into Canyons, they seem very good for the money and my mate has a Nerve AM which I've ridden and is awesome. Alot of Canyon Strives look excellent and come with drop seatposts and chain tensioners.
I'll be using the bike for places like Llandegla, Coed Brenin, Afan, Cwm Carn, Glentress and we're probably going to Morzine in August. For my local woods I'll use my Stumpjumper.
Any recommendations in the £2-2.5k bracket? The Ghost looks great but at 14.5kg will it be a bit too heavy for what I ride?
I've looked at Yeti, Commencal and Rocky Mountain but they seem quite expensive and not that much 2012 available
Thanks

True, the rear mech does the tensioning job very well.......not sure what tensioner you would use with that existing tensioner though?Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

The 2013 model is the same price, spec looks similar - Float vs RP2, Elixir 5 vs 7. I much prefer the black/green colour scheme of the 2013 mind.
I'd of thought the 2012 model would be on offer somewhere, I can't find any mind.Commencal Meta AM

Thanks for the suggestions so far. The Stumpy Evo Comp 2012 is the same price as the 2013 yes, maybe due to it winning MBR's bike of the year award. The 2012 model is also quite hard to find for sale anywhere. In this month's MBR they reckon they've seen it online for just over £2.1k, they don't say where. Evan's have sold out.
I've started looking at Canyon's, they seem very good value for the money. The reason I want a chain tensioner is because whenever I go to Wales my chain falls off on the fast DH which is quite annoying and dangerous. I'll have a look at the other bikes mentioned. Thanks________________

I don't imagine you will get a better spec than a Canyon or YT bike, nothing really comes close from the other manufacturers.. however make sure the frame suits your needs, check out the geometry charts and compare to the Stumpy Evo..0

Have you looked at the GIANT Trance... always gets good marks in all the tests.Regards Bazza
